2. continue, go on
兩者都有“繼續”的意思。
(1) continue to do / doing sth. 表示“不停地做某事”，
go on to do sth. 則表示“接著做另一件事情”，go on
doing sth. 表示“繼續做同一件事情”，它可指中斷后
的繼續，也可指不中斷的繼續。
(2) continue后可直接跟名詞，而go on后須加介詞，
才能接名詞。
(3) continue可用作系動詞，go on不可。
(4) continue后可接介詞短語，表示仍在某地或某個
職位，而go on不可。
The baby continued to cry / crying all night.
這個嬰兒哭了一夜。
It's time for class. Let's go on learning Lesson 5.
上課了，我們繼續上第五課。
He continues a good friend of mine.
他仍是我的一個好朋友。

3. worth, worthy, worthwhile
這三個形容詞在使用時，容易混淆，worth只能作表
語，后面常跟名詞、代詞或動名詞的主動形式，
worthy的意思是“值得的”“配得上的”“可敬的”，作
表語或定語，作表語時，構成以下詞組：be worthy of
being done / be worthy to be done。worthwhile作“值
得的，合算的”講，只能作表語。
這個問題值得討論。
The problem is worth discusaing / discussion.
The problem is worthy of being discussed / to be
discussed.
The problem is worthy of discussion.
It is worthwhile to discuss / discussing the problem.

10. act...out把……表演出來;把……付諸行動
Everyone laughed when he acted out the episode.
當他繪聲繪色描繪那件事時，大家哄堂大笑。
They actually acted out their ideal.
他們確實把自己的理想變成了行動。
act against 違反
act as 擔任;充當
act on 奉行;對……起作用
act up 出毛病;搗亂
7. after all畢竟;終究
這個詞組有兩個含意：“要知道……”;“別忘了
……”，表示說話人對別人的態度，用來說服或提醒
對方，引出聽話人似乎忘記了的某個重要的論點或
理由，在表這個意思時，一般把after all放在句首。
該詞組還表示“終究”，在表示這層意思時，after aIl
一般放于句末。
I think we should let her go on holiday alone. After
all, she is fifteen and she isn't a child any more.
我想應該讓她獨自去度假，(要知道)她畢竟已經15
歲，不再是小孩了。
Mathilde thought it was a diamond necklace, but it
wasn't a real one after all.
瑪蒂爾德原以為那足一條鉆石項鏈，但那終歸不是
真的鉆石項鏈。
