高二英語詞匯：最后的finally
1. 表示先后順序的“最后”、“終于”，通常放在句首。
如：The car wouldn’t start, so finally we decided to go on foot.
汽車不能發動，所以我們最后決定走路去。
此用法尤其用于在列舉時引出最后一項。
如：He lived in Turkey, France, Norway and finally Mexico.
他曾在土耳其、法國、挪威等國住過，最后還在墨西哥住過.
2. 表示等了好久才“終于”，此時通常放在謂語動詞之前 (若有助動詞放在助詞后)。
如：After several long delays, the plane finally left at 6 o’clock.
在幾次長時間的耽誤之后，飛機終于在6點鐘起飛。
When he finally arrived he explained he had lost his way.
他最后趕到時，他解釋說他迷路了。
3. 表示決定性的或不再更改的“最后”。
如：It is not finally settled yet. 這事還未最后解決。
4. 區別 finally, at last, in the end。
如：(1) 三者都可表示經過許多變化、一段等候或一番拖延或曲折之后的“最后”，但有細微區別：finally 語氣較輕，且平鋪直敘，一般不帶感情色彩，有
時可與 in the end換用;而 at last換用;而則語氣稍重，且往往帶有一定的感情色彩 (如不耐煩、放心、如愿等)。
如：Finally [in the end] he succeeded.
最后他成功了 (不帶感情色彩----平鋪直敘)。
He succeeded at last.
他終于成功了 (帶有感情色彩---- 欣慰或如愿等)。
(2) in the end 可用來談論將來的事，而其它兩者一般不這樣用。
如：In the end things will mend.
(諺語)船到橋頭自然直。
I’m sure everything will turn out all right in the end.
我相信最后一切都會好起來的。
