辨析
compete/contest
compete 表示“為了爭得名次、獎金，合同等”，并不含有將對手征服的意思。
contest 所表示的競賽可以是友誼賽，也可以是有敵意的競賽，旨在比試技能、能力、力氣、耐力等，此外還可以表示贏得選舉。
He believed that nobody could compete with/against him. 他認為沒有人能和他競爭。
More than 1,000 competitors took part in the competition to compete for the first prize.1 000多名選手參加了爭奪一等獎的比賽。
He has now competed in two Olympics.他已經參加過兩屆奧運會了。
