1. include vt 包括;包含
Price $14.90, postage included. 價格14.90美元,郵資包括在內。
He had included a large number of funny stories in the speech.
他在講話中加進了許多引人發笑的故事。
1)including為介詞,后接名詞、代詞作賓語。
There were six people in the room, including 3 women.房間里有六個人,包括三個婦女。
2)included為過去分詞充當的形容詞,無比較級和最高級,其前常用名詞或代詞。
It is reported that nine people were killed in the aircrash. an American included.
據報道九個人在墜機事件中喪生, 包括一個美國人在內。
3)比較 include,contain
include作“包含”解時,其后的賓語只是整體的一部分。
Contain作此意解時,其后的賓語指的是整體的全部。
Six were killed, including a boy.連一個男孩在內,共有六個人死亡。
Our textbooks contains twelve units.我們的教科書包括十二個單元。
2. restore vt
1) 歸還 to restore stolen property 歸還贓物
2)恢復;復興 to restore law and order 恢復法律和秩序
3)恢復健康;復原 restored after one's holiday 假期之后健康恢復了
3. rebuildv. 再建;重建 rebuild a house after the fire.火災后重建房子。
注意:re-前綴,加在動詞或名詞前。“重新”。如:rewrite, reopen, revisit, remake, reprint, reread.
4. burnvi, vt burnt 或 burned, burning
1) 燃燒 The house is burning. 房子燒起來了。
2) 發光;照亮 a light burning 燈光亮著
3) 發熱;炙熱 the burning sand 炙熱的沙子
4) 熱衷 She is burning to tell you the news. 她急于要告訴你這消息。
Everybody is burning to know the good news.大家都急于想知道這則好消息。
5) 燒傷;燒壞;燒毀 He burnt all his papers. 他燒毀了(他)所有的文件。
n. 燒傷 burns on her hand 手部的燒傷 burn up (因熱度過高)燒壞; 快速旅行;趕路to burn up the road 趕路
5. beauty n.
1) 美,美貌 a flower of great beauty 一朵非常美麗的花
2) 美人;美的事物 Your daughter is quite a beauty. 你的女兒很漂亮。
3) 極好的(或極壞的)人或事物
That black eye you got in the fight is a real beauty! 你那被打得烏青的眼睛可真漂亮喔!
6. photographvt 照相;為…而拍照
We photographed the school team. 我們給校隊照了個相。
1)n.照片, 相片;逼真的印象[描繪]
2)have [get] one's photograph taken(=sit [pose]for one's photograph)請人拍照
3)have a photograph taken with和... 合影; take a photograph of拍攝
She has had no photographs of herself taken since her marriage.自從結婚后她一直沒拍過照片。
7. damage n
1) 損失;損害,損壞
The storm did a lot of damage to the crops. 暴風雨使莊稼受到了很大損失。
2)(前面與the連用)價錢
What are the damage for the wash job of my car? 清洗我的車要多少錢?
3) (pl) 賠償費 to claim damages索賠
The court awarded £500 in damages to the injured. 法庭判給受傷者500英鎊的賠償費。
vt 損害,損壞;使受損失
The earthquake damaged several buildings. 地震使一些建筑受到了破壞。
8. project n計劃;設計
an impossible project 不可能實施的計劃
a project to build a new road 建一條新路的規劃
1) 突出;使突出
The wall is projected in the middle. 這堵墻壁在中部凸出。
His eyebrows project noticeably. 他的眉毛特別突出。
2) 投擲;扔;發射; 擴散
A singer must learn to project his voice so as to be heard in a large hall.
"歌手必須學會把聲音送得遠,使會堂里的人都聽得見。"
3) 表現(自己);突出(自己)
A politician must project himself if he wants to win an election.
政治家如想贏得選舉勝利必須表現自己。
9. official adj
1) 官方的; 正式的
The mass media demanded that all the official documents concerning the sale of this land be made public. 大眾媒體要求公布有關出售這塊土地的全部正式文件。
2)an official letter 公函; official price 官方牌價;
an official title 官銜; official news官方消息
Although the retired architects of the party do not occupy any official positions, they have a lot of authority. 雖然黨的締造者們現在不擔任正式職務,但他們很有一些影響。
3)n. 官員; 公務員
an official in the department of health 衛生部門的官員
10. breathn
1) 呼吸;氣息 a deep breath 深呼吸
Let me get my breath back. 讓我喘口氣。
How long can you hold your breath? 你能屏住氣多長時間?
2) 微風 hardly a breath of air 幾乎沒有一點風
3)習慣用語:catch one's breath屏息;歇一口氣:hold one's breath屏息;take breath歇息
waste one's breath白費口舌;take one's breath away 目瞪口呆;大為驚訝
The original picture of the unknown ancient painter took my breath away.
那幅不知名古代畫家的真跡使我驚訝不止。
