一、多式聯運的定義（考試重點）
1-1 課文：Multimodal transport refers to a transport system usually operated by a carrier with more than one mode of transport under the control or ownership of one operator. （多式聯運的定義，掌握）

課文意思：多式聯運是指由一個多式聯運經營人控制或所有由一個承運人運營的使用兩個或兩個以上的運輸方式的運輸系統。
1-2 課文：Goods moving in international trade often have to pass through the hands of more than one carrier and over more than one mode of transport.
注釋：international trade： 國際貿易 pass through： 經過，通過
課文意思：貨物運輸在國際貿易中通常會經手幾個承運人并且要通過兩個以上的運輸方式才能完成。
1-3 課文：Under the conventional system of segmented transport， the consignor enters into separate contracts with each carrier， the liability of each carrier being limited to the carriage performed by him.
注釋：conventional： 常規的，傳統的，慣例的 segmented transport： 分段運輸（segmented： 分段的，區段的） consignor： 托運人，發貨人 enter into： 締結 separate： 分開的，不同的 liability： 責任，義務 be limited to： 受……限制，限制于…… perform： 履行，執行
課文意思：在傳統的分段運輸中，發貨人/托運人需要與每個區段的承運人簽訂單獨的運輸合同，各區段承運人所承擔的責任又受限于該承運人實際履行的情況。
1-4 課文：The consignor or his agent has also to attend to another， including， if necessary， warehousing of the goods at any transshipment point.
