    Grandpa ： Is that you， Susan？

    Susan ： It's me， Grandpa. Grandpa ： Am I glad to see you ！

    Susan ： And am I glad to see you ！ I am also glad to be here. Grandpa
： How are things ？

    Susan ： I have been talking to a group of sales men since ten this
morning ， and I'm real exhausted. Grandpa： Well ， you look good. What's
Harry doing tonight ？

    Susan ： He and Michelle are visiting relatives in New Jersey today.
Grandpa ： The rest of our family went to the movies. So it's just you
and me， Susan. Susan ： It's nice to be alone with you ， Grandpa. We
don't get to see enough of each other. Grandpa： Oh ， I feel the same
way ， Susan. I miss seeing you. But to tell the truth， next time I'd
like to go into the city and meet you there ， instead of you coming here.
Susan ： You don't need to do that， Grandpa. Grandpa ： Yeah ， I do.
I need to get out more. Well， I mean there's a lot to do around the house，
and I love being here with the family ， you know ， but I'm restless.
Since I retired ， I've got extra time on my hands. Susan ： I understand，
Grandpa. Grandpa： I think you do. Frankly， I'd like to use my brain
a little more.

    「語(yǔ)言點(diǎn)精講」

    1. It's me， Grandpa. It's me.是我。這是非正式用法。正式用法應(yīng)該是
It's I. 但是大多數(shù)美國(guó)人用非正式用法。另外這句話主語(yǔ)用的It. 講話時(shí)如果
看不見(jiàn)對(duì)方，彼此稱呼時(shí)常用that，it，this等詞，如上一句話： Is that you，
Susan ？

    2. Am I glad to see you ！

    見(jiàn)到你我真高興！這種句子形式上是問(wèn)句，實(shí)際上是感嘆句，加強(qiáng)感情和語(yǔ)
氣。

    3. I have been talking to a group of sales men since ten this morning，
and I'm real exhausted. 我從今天上午十點(diǎn)鐘一直在同一批推銷員談話，真是
筋疲力盡了。

    I have been talking to…我一直在和（他們）談……。這是現(xiàn)在完成進(jìn)行
時(shí)的表達(dá)法，表示從過(guò)去某一時(shí)間一直持續(xù)到現(xiàn)在的動(dòng)作或狀態(tài)。

    real：確實(shí)。這是一個(gè)非正式用法，正式用法應(yīng)該是really或very.

    4. It's nice to be alone with you ， Grandpa. 能跟你單獨(dú)在一起很好，
爺爺。

    to be alone with you：?jiǎn)为?dú)和你在一起。

    6. We don't get to see enough of each other.我們見(jiàn)面的時(shí)候不多啊。

    get to：有機(jī)會(huì)或時(shí)間做某事。表示通過(guò)一個(gè)過(guò)程逐漸做到某事，或花費(fèi)一
定的力氣做到某事。

    7. Oh ， I feel the same way， Susan. I miss seeing you.我也這樣感
覺(jué)，蘇珊。我見(jiàn)不到你時(shí)很想念你的。

    I feel the same way ：我也有同感。我有同樣的感覺(jué)。

    miss doing sth. ：在這里指“懷念作某事，懷念做過(guò)的事”。

    8. But to tell the truth， next time I'd like to go into the city
and meet you there， instead of you coming here.可是跟你說(shuō)真心話，下次
我愿意到市內(nèi)去，在那兒見(jiàn)你，而不是讓你上這兒來(lái)。

    to tell the truth ：說(shuō)實(shí)話，老實(shí)說(shuō)。類似含義的表達(dá)還有frankly ， to
be frank with you ， as a matter of fact， frankly speaking 等。

    instead of…：而不是…，不是…而是。

    9. Since I retired， I've got extra time on my hands. 打從我退休以
來(lái)，我手頭有許多多余的時(shí)間無(wú)法打發(fā)掉。

    time on my hands：可以自由支配的時(shí)間，無(wú)法打發(fā)的時(shí)間。on one's hands
常含有“必須自己承擔(dān)或解決的負(fù)擔(dān)”的意義。
